New location, new ambience, but with the same goal: at HOMECOMING HOMEPORT 2024, we have once again brought together the world of tech innovations and the port industry to learn from each other in a joint exchange. Interesting presentations on various specialist areas also provided great entertainment.
HOMECOMING HOMEPORT 2024 was a complete success and offered participants an exciting day full of inspiring presentations and discussions. The event kicked off at 11:00 am with a warm welcome and opening that set the tone for the day. At 11:15, the opening keynote began, explaining why deeptech is critical to the ports of the future. This introduction provided a comprehensive overview of the latest technological developments and their importance for the maritime industry. This was followed at 12:00 by the session "Quo Vadis: AI in Action for Maritime and Port Industry". Here, concrete applications of artificial intelligence in the port and shipping industry were presented, which aroused great interest among the participants. After a short break, the session continued at 12:45 with "On the Roadway to Decarbonization with Sustainable Energy Sources in Maritime Industry". This discussion highlighted the important steps towards decarbonization and the use of sustainable energy sources in the maritime industry.
From 13:30, everything revolved around port security with the topic "Are you ready for the attack? - How ports are prepared for their security and resilience". Experts explained how ports can prepare for potential threats and strengthen their resilience. In the afternoon, at 14:15, the "Transformation of Work - Are Ports sexy enough for next Gens?" was discussed. This session explored how jobs in ports can be made more attractive for the next generation.
A highlight of the day was Dr. Melanie Leonhard's speech at 15:00, followed by a tour of the exhibition. The Hamburg Senator for Economic Affairs shared her visions and insights on the future of the maritime industry. A discussion on "Social licenses to operate - How innovation plays role for social impact in port cities?" followed at 15:45. Here it was discussed how innovations can have a positive social impact on port cities. The technical sessions concluded at 4:30 pm with the panel discussion "Future of Autonomous Systems in Transportation is now!", which took a look into the future of autonomous transportation systems and presented their current developments. The day ended with an after-show party, which began at 5 p.m. and offered participants the opportunity to continue exchanging ideas, networking and celebrating the successful event in a relaxed atmosphere.
